A Mighty Fortress (Brass Quintet or Brass Ensemble)

Overview

This easy and flexible arrangement is based on the SATB voice parts and works well for brass quartet, brass quintet, or brass ensemble. Optional parts are included to fit various instruments; be sure to include a good balance of soprano (=hymn melody), alto, tenor, and bass lines.

For a standard brass quintet, use these parts:
  • Trumpet 1 and 2 = Both play the Trumpet 1 Part (Both play Soprano Line)
  • French Horn in F = Play the French Horn in F 1 Part (Alto Line)
  • Trombone = Play the Trombone 1 Part (Tenor Line)
  • Tuba = Play the Tuba Part (Bass Line)

If that seems too top-heavy, another option is this:

  • Trumpet 1 and 2 = Play the Trumpet 1 and 2 Parts (Soprano and Alto Lines)
  • French Horn in F = Play the French Horn in F 2 Part (Tenor Line)
  • Trombone = Play the Trombone 2 Part (Bass Line)
  • Tuba = Play the Tuba Part (Bass Line)

The piano reduction is optional and serves as a score. Optional music for choir or congregation with lyrics is also included. The last phrase or entire hymn may be used as an introduction when accompanying congregational singing. Soli Deo gloria
