Bach’s Air on the G String (String Quartet or String Orchestra)

Overview

Air (on the G string) is based on the second movement of Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). August Wilhelmj arranged it in 1871 by adjusting the first violin part down an octave and transposing the movement to C major. This arrangement is in Bach’s original key of D major rather than Wilhelmj’s key of C.

This arrangement can be played by either a string quartet or a string orchestra (with basses reading the cello part). Soli Deo gloria
