From Parting Strengthens Poetry (1996)
“Dream a dream of Springshine
in the waning autumn light,”
I heard Him say.
“I have made a gift to share with you,
and when I give I never give halfway.”
Heart of gold — deceptive glow,
a faulty dream of youth — I see the truth:
see the gold is far from pure, in fact
a tender shoot of grass is what I find.
Dewdrops on the green,
sunlight’s shattered gold.
I love your golden heart:
baptized blade,
dewdrops and the fire of Father’s love.
Beauty in the weakness:
weak things grow.
