From Songs of the Islands (2005)
A silhouette of sinking sun
pronouncing all its labor done
slips down to join the earth as one —
the ocean still remains.
The salt grass dancing in the breeze,
the starlight in the hala trees,
a work of art that no one sees —
the ocean still remains.
Beyond the veil of day and night,
beneath the owl’s silent flight,
the colored waves of dark and light –
the ocean still remains.
The ocean still remains, my love,
and when I listen, even here,
the crashing ringing in my ear
reminds me still that you are near –
the ocean still remains.
